The Crew House
Lot No. 36 - Henry Crew bought this lot October 21, 1817 for $85. He married Margaret Baily in 1822 and two of Margaret (Baily) Crew's brothers, Abraham and Emmor (II) Baily built the house and store next door in 1825-26. Before the Civil War, runaway slaves were occasionally hid in the third floor space that connected to the store. The last Crew family member to live in the home was Evelyn "Eppie" Crew who died in 1972. The house was continuously in the Crew family for 146 years.
